Travel Medicine
Each year approximately 45 million Americans travel abroad, with close to 20 million of them spending time in rural areas or developing countries, locations where the risks of contracting an illness are great. Studies show that more than one third of travelers abroad experience a travel-related illness. Americans take for granted the wonderful health care system in place in the United States. Every state has outstanding regional hospitals and trauma centers with well-trained specialists. That is NOT the case in many countries. In fact, if something goes wrong on a trip healthwise, it could be a nightmare for the traveler.
At SouthCoast Medical Group, our Board Ceritified Infecticious Disease Physicians are dedicated to educating you about health risks in the country you plan to visit. Our physicians conduct pre-travel risk assessments for any type of travel, immunizations for the diseases found in the country you will be visiting, and post-travel consultation for those returning with medical problems.
It is advisable to book an appointment at least 4-6 weeks before the planned departure date.
